Have you ever been to Brazil? I have been a couple of times and I must say I love their beaches and the endless carnival fests. People are cheerful and they seem to be always happy. And they have reason to be happy, other than the carnival and pinha coladas.

vhp-sugarTheir economy is booming and has long taken the lead in Latin America. Interestingly enough, one of the largest sources of income is sugar. Brazil is the world leader in sugar production. Their main sugarcane fields are located in the Center-South of the, where the land and weather there are well suited for growing the sugarcanes.

Those fields produce several types (or grades) of sugar. One of them is VHP Sugar, or Very High Popularity Sugar. This type of sugar is made from high sucrose sugar cane and quickly became very popular among sugar exporters due to its new form of raw sugar with far greater sucrose content and less contamination than competing raw sugar.

It is a brown light sugar, used mainly in bakery. This sugar is exported all over the world with the US as one of its main importers, with Argentina and China also using large amounts of this sugar in many of their products.
